Johnstown High School field hockey standout Emily Fleming has been selected to participate in the AAU Junior Olympics July 29-Aug. 1 at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

The rising junior midfielder was among 128 players selected to compete in the under-16 AAU tournament based on their performances in late June at the National Futures Championships at Spooky Nook Sports in Pennsylvania. Those players were identified by members of USA Field Hockey.

Eight U16 field hockey teams will be competing for the top spot at the AAU Junior Olympics.

Fleming was a key contributor on Johnstown’s 18-1 Section II Class C runner-up team last fall with her defense, transition passes in the open field and playmaking inside the offensive circle. She collected 13 goals and 11 assists as a sophomore, and had 10 goals and six assists as a freshman when the Lady Bills reached the sectional semifinal round.

After each of the last two school field hockey seasons Fleming was named an all-state performer to go along with Foothills Council first-team honors.

Fleming also plays lacrosse and skis for Johnstown.
