In Latham, local bowlers helped raise more than $10,500 for people suffering from epilepsy during the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York’s 28th annual bowling fundraiser, Bowl to End Epilepsy. The event, which featured more than 150 bowlers, was held at the Spare Time bowling lanes in Latham.
The goal was raise funds for the foundation and to raise awareness for the estimated 45,000 people living with epilepsy in the 22 counties served by the foundation. In addition to bowlers raising money for the cause, members of the Albany Empire arena football team signed autographs and took photographs with fans.
Among the sponsors of this year’s event were the Times Union, Siena College radio station WVCR 88.3 The Saint, NeuroPace, Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Auto/Mate, Sonic of the Capital Region and Greenwich Biosciences. All of the proceeds from the event are used to support foundation programs and services, including educational programs, case management, advocacy, support networks and counseling.

In Johnstown, members of the community came out to raise tens of thousands of dollars to support the school district’s athletics programs in the wake of significant budget cuts. Supporters of the program recently hosted a fundraiser called “1,000 Citizens to Save our Sports” in hopes of retaining sports that were slashed in the district’s budget. The one event held earlier this month raised $94,850 toward a $311,000 goal. Among those helping out the Johnstown student-athletes at the event were players and coaches from rival Gloversville sports teams, Among the other fundraisers planned is a youth field hockey tournament July 13-14 at the University at Albany.
