SARATOGA SPRINGS – City police are investigating what they describe as a suspicious incident Sunday in which a 12-year-old boy bicycling on the East Side said a man tried to lure him with a puppy.
Police said they want to find the identity of the man, who did not approach the boy, but carried a puppy and alluded to having more puppies in his car.
Police said they were contacted by a concerned parent about an incident that took place about 10 a.m. Sunday in the area of Ludlow and Mitchell streets. The boy reported that he was riding his bike when an older white male, whom the boy did not know, attempted to engage the boy in conversation about a puppy.
“The older male, who had a small puppy with him, asked the child if he liked the puppy and added that he had more in the car,” police said in a release. “The child did not stop and made the correct choice in leaving the area.”
The boy went home and told his mother, who immediately contacted police. Officers who responded to the Ludlow Street area were unable to find the man.
The man is described as a white male of average build. He was reported to have gray/black hair, but no other facial hair. He was wearing shorts and a short-sleeve T-shirt, possibly with some red in the shirt. The puppy he was carrying was described as a brown chocolate lab approximately four to six weeks old, and wearing a red collar. The boy did not see a car, police said.
