SCHENECTADY – A Watervliet woman has been arrested, accused of stabbing a woman in the neck late Tuesday in Schenectady, authorities said.
The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center with what police described as a non-life-threatening injury.
Charged in the case is Rachel A. Anigian, 21, of Western Avenue. She faces one count of first-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Anigian is accused of stabbing the 22-year-old victim in the “neck/throat area” at about 10:39 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Broadway and Weaver Street, police said. She is accused of using an unknown type of knife, according to police allegations filed in court.
The initial call came in as women fighting in the street, police said.
An injured woman could be seen being taken on a stretcher for treatment seated upright with bandages apparent in the person’s shoulder and chin areas.
Police officers could also be seen using flashlights to search the scene for evidence.
A second person appeared to have been taken for treatment after the incident. Information on that individual was not available.
