State Police: Drunk Ballston Lake man leads troopers on brief pursuit, hits fire hydrant in Albany

The incident started on the Thruway, state police say

ALBANY — A drunk driver from Ballston Lake led state police on a brief chase into Albany last week that ended when the driver struck a fire hydrant, state police said.

No injuries were reported.

The driver, identified as Jared S. Holt, 23, was arrested and charged with multiple misdemeanors, including aggravated driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment, state police said.

The incident began just before 8 p.m. Thursday when troopers received a report of an erratic driver on the Thruway, near Exit 23, state police said.

Troopers found the car, observed several violations and tried to stop it. The driver failed to comply and began the pursuit, state police said.

The driver ultimately failed to negotiate a turn at Delaware Avenue and McAlpin Street and hit the hydrant, state police said.

Holt’s blood alcohol content tested at 0.22 percent, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08, state police said.

Holt also faces one count each of driving while intoxicated, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and reckless driving, misdemeanors.
