CLIFTON PARK — U-Haul has announced plans to open its first self storage and retail facility in Clifton Park by 2020.
The U-Haul store will be located on a 9.8 acre parcel at 7 Synergy Park Drive, which the company recent purchased, according to a press release.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Clifton Park is scheduled for completion by fall 2020. It will offer more than 800 indoor, climate-controlled self-storage rooms with high-end security features at affordable price points as part of the three-story, 100,000-square-foot facility.
This will be the first U-Haul-owned and -operated facility in Clifton Park.
“The property is located directly off the Adirondack Northway,” Ben Naaktgeboren, president of U-Haul Company of Eastern New York, said in a press release. “It will be convenient for do-it-yourself customers who are planning a long-distance move, or just relocating within the Clifton Park community. Clifton Park is an attractive, central, upstate New York destination. This community offers residents a growing business environment and bustling neighborhoods. U-Haul will be part of the longevity of this town going forward. We’re excited to invest in Clifton Park.”
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Clifton Park will offer truck and trailer sharing; towing equipment and professional hitch installation, a retail showroom with moving supplies; U-Box portable storage containers; propane, U-Haul Remote 24/7 access for self-storage customers, and the Take A Box, Leave A Box program.
Naaktgeboren expects to hire a staff of 10 full-time employees when the facility is completed. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within Clifton Park, and the company encouraging local contractors to bid on construction work.
Clifton Park has, over the last few years, become a highly sought-after area for self-storage based companies due to its proximity to the Adirondack Northway.
Most recently, the Clifton Park Planning Board granted approval of expansion by a long-running self-storage business.
Exit 9 Storage, which is currently located at 2 Crossing Blvd., will construct a new, three-story self-storage facility with nearly 350 units and six parking stalls at 101 Sitterly Road. Upon completion, the new facility will nearly double the business’ operations.
Company officials first announced their expansion plans last year.
Eric King, president of Equinox Companies, said that Exit 9 Storage was one of the first storage companies in the area when it opened decades ago.
Its existing location has 415 units of varying sizes, ranging from walk-in closet-sized to units large enough to house trucks and boats.
The operation offers customers gated storage with 24-hour access, on-site management at least five days a week and video surveillance.
The new facility will have a more sophisticated heating and cooling system, said King, and much of the new technology that will be implemented into the storage will simply make the storage process for customers more comfortable. New to the expansion will be the ability to store wine in units as well.
