Saratoga Sheriff: Vehicle break-ins investigated in Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Malta

Zurlo reminds residents to hide or remove valuables; lock their vehicles

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of vehicle break-ins that occurred on July 16, according to Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo.

A total of five car break-ins, which Zurlo described as “smash and grabs,” occurred across various locations in southern Saratoga County, including the Kinns Road area, Halfmoon’s dog park, the Clifton Common Park and Malta.

Wallets, credit cards and other personal belongings were removed from all of the cars after windows were broken, Zurlo said.

Zurlo confirmed that the crimes are currently under investigation and that he and his staff are hoping to recover more video surveillance that might identify suspects. If that fails to yield results, the department will release information to the public meant to assist in locating whomever is responsible for the break-ins.

In the meantime, though, Zurlo cautioned that valuables should not be left in plain sight in vehicles, even if they’re locked.

“Don’t leave any wallets, or personal items inside your car,” he said on Monday. “Secure it in a different location.”
