QUEENSBURY – Two people have been arrested after a Northway traffic stop Friday uncovered about 167 pounds of marijuana, state police said.
The stop happened just after 1 p.m. Friday on the Northway in Queensbury after the driver was spotted not wearing a seat belt, state police said.
Troopers interviewed the driver and smelled a strong odor of marijuana, police said. A search of the vehicle then uncovered several hockey bags and black garbage bags containing marijuana, state police said.
Police arrested Justin F. Corcoran, 30, and Kenneth J. Buntz, Jr., both of Malone, and charged them with one count each of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and fourth-degree conspiracy. Troopers identified the driver as Corcoran.
The stop and charges follow two similar stops on the Northway in Queensbury in just over a month. On July 30, two people were accused of possessing about 116 pounds of marijuana near Exit 19. Then on July 9, troopers said they seized about 179 pounds of marijuana, also near exit 19, also leading to two arrests.
