Sheriff: Niskayuna man, 95, dies in Warren County crash

A 95-year-old Niskayuna man was killed Tuesday when the sports utility vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree in North Creek.

Patrol officers from the Warren County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as Howard C. Ward Jr.

Deputies said Ward was driving northeast on Riley Hill Road at about 3:15 p.m. when the SUV veered off the road and struck the tree head on. Ward was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Ward was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Police said investigators believe Ward may have suffered a medical problem that preceded the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.

Patrol Officers Kenneth Smith and Michael Lavallie investigated, assisted by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division, state police, Stony Creek Fire Department and Stony Creek Emergency Squad.
