MOREAU — The swimming beach at Moreau Lake State Park has been closed due to a harmful algae bloom in the lake, the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said Tuesday.
The closure is described as precautionary, to protect the health and safety of swimmers. The beach will remain closed until the beach area is tested as free from algae blooms for 24 hours, and after a water sample has been tested for toxin and come back clear.
A potential harmful blue-green bloom on the lake was first reported to the state Department of Environmental Conservation last Friday. The toxins can be harmful to both people and pets.
