‘Passport Series: Music Haven at Proctors’ announces four shows

First up on the schedule is Les Filles de Illighadad from Central Niger

Music Haven may be wrapped up for the summer but it’s certainly not done for the year.

With the “Passport Series: Music Haven at Proctors,” bands from around the globe will head to the electric city from October through April 2020.

“‘The Passport Series’ continues to explore this vast world of ours, highlighting exceptional artists whose spellbinding music conveys the ethos of their diverse cultures. Each destination on the 2019-2020 itinerary is brimming with unique colors, textures and sounds and awaiting discovery,” said Music Haven Producing Artistic Director Mona Golub in a statement.

First up on the schedule is Les Filles de Illighadad from Central Niger, bringing a modernized version of “tende” or traditional rural nomadic song to the stage on Thursday, Oct. 10. Ljova and the Kontraband will take over on Thursday, Nov. 21. The quintet is led by violinist Lev Zhurbin and will bring a gypsy jazz sound to the series.

Then, on Thursday, Feb. 27, Altan, one of Ireland’s traditional bands of County Donegal will take the stage and finally, on Friday, April 3, The Brooklyn Nomads will perform, bringing influences of Flamenco, jazz, Balkan and classical music to the series.

Each show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for each show or as a $75 subscription. Each concert concludes with complimentary dessert and coffee as well as a meet and greet with the artists.
