SCHENECTADY – A former Schenectady man illegally took nearly $4,000 in unemployment benefits, state police said.
Sanjai Sookdeo, 46, now of Queens, was arrested last week and charged with one count each of third-degree grand larceny, first-degree falsifying business records and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.
Sookdeo is accused of submitting fraudulent records to the state Department of Labor to receive a total of $3,980 in unemployment benefits he wasn’t entitled to between June and August 2018 when he lived in Schenectady, state police said.
Sookdeo was processed and released to appear in Schenectady City Court later.
