Schalmont High School Principal Imran Abbasi will be leaving the position for a job in the Niskayuna Central School District.

Abbasi will leave the principal position effective Oct. 7 and start as Niskayuna’s director of world languages, English as a second language and social studies, a districtwide position. The Niskayuna school board approved his appointment Tuesday night.

In a note posted Tuesday, Schalmont Superintendent Carol Pallas said the district planned to appoint an interim principal in the coming weeks as it begins a search for a permanent replacement.

“We will try to make the transition as seamless as possible so that our students continue to be afforded a stable learning environment,” Pallas wrote in the note.

Abbasi started at Schalmont High School in August 2013 after serving as principal at Clayton A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville. Abbasi replaced Terry Nash, who had served in the role since 1999.
