LOUDONVILLE — The Siena College men’s basketball program’s MAAC opener for the 2019-20 season has been moved up.

Siena’s home game against Canisius, originally scheduled for Feb. 9, will now be played Dec. 23. Previously, Siena’s MAAC opener was set to be a Jan. 3 home game against Monmouth.

A Siena athletics department spokesman said Friday there were multiple reasons for the scheduling change. Notably, the Harlem Globetrotters are playing a 1 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Times Union Center, which would have caused Siena’s game to move to 7 p.m., and the MAAC had previously given its schools the option to move one league game apiece into November or December.

The MAAC returns this season to a 20-game schedule after playing an 18-game slate the last two seasons.
