High School Roundup: Ballston Spa girls' soccer defeats Niskayuna

Ballston Spa edged Niskayuna.

Mikayla Kelley capitalized on a 16th minute penalty kick to give the Ballston Spa girls’ soccer team a 1-0 Suburban Council victory over Niskayuna Thursday.

Sarah Rule was on the attack navigating through the box when she drew a foul, which led to Kelley’s goal. Niskayuna goalkeeper Layla Abdoun saved seven of eight shots faced while Ballston Spa goalkeeper Shaylee Andress had a perfect night in goal and saved all eight shots she faced.

Sydney Neff had 35 assists and six kills to lead the Holy Names girls’ volleyball team to a five set Colonial Council victory over Mohonasen by scores of 25-15, 21-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-22. Mohonasen was led by Alyssa Hamblet with 30 assists, and Hailey Deguire with 29 digs.

Shenendehowa scored a 1-0 Suburban Council boys’ soccer win against Burnt Hills. Jaylin Sykes scored the game-winning goal.

In overtime, Mechanicville won 2-1 against rival Stillwater in a Wasaren League boys’ soccer match. Andrew Kraszewski scored both goals for Mechanicville.
