Niskayuna police investigating thefts from vehicles

12 incidents were reported

NISKAYUNA — Niskayuna police are reminding people to lock their cars, vans and SUVs after thieves on Monday stole items from vehicles parked in the town’s Old Niskayuna neighborhood.

Deputy Police Chief Michael Stevens said 12 incidents were reported, 11 of which entailed items taken from cars. Some of the vehicles were located in the Regent Street area.

Stevens said all the vehicles that were entered were unlocked.

On Sept. 5, police checked out larcenies from seven vehicles parked in the Hexam Gardens neighborhood. Three other vehicles were entered, but nothing was taken. Stevens said these 10 vehicles also were unlocked.

“We are not the only jurisdiction investigating similar incidents,” Stevens said in an email note. “We know Colonie PD and Schenectady PD have had similar incidents reported over the last couple weeks.

“We need to stress to residents the need to always secure your homes and vehicles,” he added, “to help avoid making yourself a victim of one of these crimes.”
