WARREN COUNTY – A driver spotted going 90 mph in a work zone led troopers on a chase Thursday morning that ended as the driver crashed into another vehicle, killing the other driver, state police said.
State police identified the driver troopers chased as Skyler B. Crouse, 30, residence not immediately available.
The driver killed in the crash was identified as Joseph D. Turcotte, 38, of Brant Lake, state police said.
The incident began just after 8 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 87 near Exit 19 at Queensbury, state police said.
Troopers there spotted Crouse’s vehicle speeding through the work zone. They attempted to stop him, but he failed to stop and continued on at a high rate of speed, state police said.
Law enforcement pursued Crouse miles and used a tire deflation device to deflate his tires just south of Exit 25, about 25 miles from the starting point.
One of Crouse’s tires deflated, Crouse exited the Northway at Exit 25 and, still traveling at a high-rate of speed, he struck Turcotte’s vehicle on the off-ramp.
Crouse’s vehicle then continued on across Route 8 and came to rest on the northbound entrance ramp, state police said.
Crouse suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, state police said.
The investigation into the crash was ongoing.
