CLIFTON PARK – An early Sunday traffic stop on Interstate 87 for an inadequate brake lamp led to the driver’s arrest on drug possession and drunken driving charges, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

Anthony P. McAvoy, 32, of Watervliet, was arrested in the 2:13 a.m. traffic stop and charged with one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, along with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

Deputies stopped McAvoy on an Interstate 87 southbound on ramp. They then found him to be intoxicated and to possess more than an eighth ounce of cocaine, officials said.

McAvoy was arraigned and released to return to court later.
