Troopers: Schenectady driver found stopped, unconscious and intoxicated at Ballston Spa intersection

BALLSTON SPA – A Schenectady man was found stopped, unconscious and intoxicated behind the wheel of a van at a Ballston Spa intersection early Wednesday, state police said.

The incident happened at about 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of Middle Line Road and Route 67, state police said.

A witness reported that the van failed to move as the light turned green. When the witness approached the driver’s side, the witness found the driver unconscious. Numerous attempts to wake the driver were unsuccessful, state police said.

Troopers arrived to find the driver, identified as Anatoliy Borts, 35, of Schenectady, behind the wheel. Borts soon began to regain consciousness as the trooper worked to wake him, state police said.

While speaking with Borts, the trooper could smell the odor of alcohol and spotted multiple signs of intoxication. Borts failed field sobriety tests and was arrested.

A breath sample found his blood alcohol content at 0.17 percent, above the legal limit to drive of 0.08.

Borts faces one count of felony driving while intoxicated. He was issued an appearance ticket and released to appear in court later.
