High school roundup: Scotia’s James, Queensbury’s Logan win Foothills Council cross country solo titles

Scotia-Glenville won the boys’ title and Broadalbin-Perth secured the girls’ title at Monday’s Foothills Council Cross Country Championships at Saratoga Spa State Park.

Individual winners from the event were Queensbury senior Nick Logan in the boys’ race with a mark of 15:52.26 and Scotia-Glenville freshman Stephanie James with a time of 19:03.81.

James edged teammate Delaney Krogh for the girls’ championship, as Krogh — a junior — finished in second place at 19:39.52.

Top-10 finishers for the Scotia-Glenville boys’ team included junior Noah Greski, senior Kyle Ostrander, junior Alex Tebano, sophomore Tyler Greene and junior Mike Pino.

Top-10 finishers for the Broadalbin-Perth girls’ team included junior Sarah Smith, freshman Emma Frasier and eighth-grader Haley Tomlinson.

In a Western Athletic Conference girls’ volleyball match, Fonda-Fultonville needed five sets to get past Schoharie. Fonda won 25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 11-25, 25-7. In the victory, Jocelyn Miller had nine aces, Julia Bagnardi had 13 assists, Peyton Zilles had nine digs, and Madisyn Dineen had nine digs and seven kills. In defeat, Bridget Cipperly had nine kills and six aces.

Gloversville won 25-13, 16-25, 25-19, 25-19 against Johnstown in a Foothills Council girls’ volleyball match. In the win, Aireana Muhlberger had 33 assists, Madelyn Avery had 18 kills, and Macey Salvione combined 11 kills and 22 digs.
