SCHENECTADY – A city man being arrested struggled and bit a city police officer in the hand, breaking the skin, on Friday, authorities said.
William Hopkins, 57, of Eastern Parkway, faces one count of second-degree assault, a felony, along with resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal mischief counts, misdemeanors.
Hopkins is accused of initially breaking a picture frame that he had no right to break just after 10:30 p.m. Friday in a dispute with his girlfriend at an Eastern Parkway address, according to police allegations filed in court.
Hopkins is then accused of struggling with officers as they attempted to take him into custody. During the struggle Hopkins allegedly bit Officer Richard Verzoni on the left hand index finger and knuckle area.
Hopkins remained held Monday on $10,000 bail, officials said.
