SCOTIA — Two Amsterdam men have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of the Scotia Citgo earlier this month, police said.
Police identified the men as Christopher I. Rodriguez, 29, and Hector J. Cordero, 29, both of Amsterdam. They each face one count of first-degree robbery and Cordero faces one count of fourth-degree conspiracy.
The men are accused of working together to rob the Citgo gas station at 184 Sacandaga Road at about 11 p.m. on Nov. 6.
Police put out a surveillance image from the robbery that showed one suspect pointing a gun at the clerk.
In announcing the arrests Tuesday, police said they were able to quickly identify the suspects through surveillance images. Police credited the public with helping. Police believe it was Rodriguez in the still image pointing the gun, police said.
Police served a search warrant at Rodriguez’ residence in Amsterdam and took him into custody there. A release did not indicate when he was arrested, but records indicate he was arrested late last week.
Police also served a search warrant on Cordero’s residence, but he wasn’t home at the time, police said. Amsterdam police picked him up Monday and turned him over to Scotia.
Rodriguez was also being charged in connection with an armed robbery in Guilderland, police said.
Police in Schenectady, Guilderland, Amsterdam and Rotterdam assisted. Fulton County and Montgomery County sheriff’s departments, the state police and the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center also helped, police said.
