NORTHUMBERLAND – A Queensbury man is facing charges after his dogs attacked and injured a horse in Northumberland, state police said.

Both dogs had previously been deemed dangerous, troopers said.

State police Monday arrested and charged the owner of the dogs, Sanjay Kapoor, 53, of Queensbury. Kapoor faces misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal contempt and reckless endangerment of property, troopers said.

The attack happened Nov. 13 at a residence in the town of Northumberland, state police said. The homeowner there called 911 to report two dogs had gotten into his pasture and attacked his horses. One horse, a yearling, suffered injuries, state police said.

Troopers determined Kapoor to be the owner of the dogs and that the dogs were loose in violation of a court order that deemed them dangerous and required them to be contained at all times, state police said.

Kapoor was processed and released to appear in court later. The dogs are being secured at the Saratoga County Animal Shelter.
