With Saturday’s 31-26 win at Stony Brook in its regular-season finale, the UAlbany football team put itself in a strong position to earn one of this year’s 24 FCS postseason spots. The victory pushed UAlbany’s overall record to 8-4 and its CAA mark to 6-2, as the Great Danes finished alone in second place in the conference.

Off back-to-back losing seasons, UAlbany was picked to finish in last place in the CAA’s preseason poll. Instead, UAlbany surprised many with a winning season in 2019, and appears likely to earn entry into this year’s postseason field, which will be announced Sunday afternoon.

UAlbany scored Saturday’s first 24 points at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, but Stony Brook (2-6, 5-7) scored the next 20 to pull within four with 14:26 left in regulation of the programs’ Golden Apple rivalry game. Karl Mofor’s third rushing touchdown of the contest provided the Great Danes with some cushion, which UAlbany needed since Stony Brook offered one last touchdown with seconds to play.

Mofor rushed for 176 yards on 31 carries to lead the Great Danes, while Jeff Undercuffler was 16 of 35 passing for 183 yards and a touchdown. Undercuffler’s touchdown pass went to Juwan Green, who had six receptions for 61 yards, while Tyler Oedekoven had four receptions for 78 yards and LJ Wesneski caught five passes for 71 yards.

For Stony Brook, Tyquell Fields was 19 of 27 passing for 223 yards and three touchdowns. Fields also threw an interception, which UAlbany’s Tyler Carswell secured.

Eli Mencer had two of UAlbany’s five sacks, while Danny Damico had a team-leading 13 total tackles.

UAlbany ended its regular season on a three-game winning streak.
