A program-best season concluded Sunday for RPI men’s soccer, which lost 3-1 to No. 1 Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III tournament.
Three different Amherst players scored in the first half, while RPI’s Austin Betterly — who had the game-winning goal in Saturday’s Sweet 16 overtime matchup with Messiah College — scored in the second half.
RPI had never played in a Sweet 16 before this year, and ended its season with a program-best mark for wins. Overall, RPI finished 16-3-4.
Sunday’s first half was played on a grass field, then the second half was played on a turf surface after the grass field was deemed unplayable due to rain. With the field change, halftime lasted for approximately an hour.
