Police: Cohoes man charged in 6-week-old infant’s death

COHOES – A Cohoes man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 6-week-old child, police said.

Anthony Ojeda, 38, of Cohoes, was charged Wednesday with one count each of second-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault, felonies.

Ojeda is accused of manslaughter in connection with an incident Tuesday that police allege led to the child’s death, and assault for an early November incident involving the same child.

Cohoes Police did not release the name of the infant who died. The child was from Van Vechten Street in Cohoes, police said.

Police charged Ojeda after Ojeda “made several admissions regarding incidents that occurred with the infant,” police said in a release. Police did not elaborate further.

Ojeda was arraigned and ordered held on $100,000 bail.

Cohoes Police detectives made the arrest with assistance form the state police. Detectives continue to follow up on leads in the case and more charges may be pending, police said.
