Schenectady man burglarized old employer four times in two months, authorities allege

SCHENECTADY – A city man burglarized his old employer four times over two months, authorities allege.

Caleb M. Sherman, 31, of Main Avenue, was arrested Monday on multiple counts, accused of breaking into the Chrisler Avenue Monroe Muffler four times from October to earlier this month, according to police allegations filed in court.

He’s accused of doing so Oct. 12, Nov. 8, Nov. 17 and Monday evening, according the allegations.

He’s accused of gaining entry all four times by breaking windows and then accused of taking items. In the Oct. 12 break-in, he is accused of taking a small safe. In the Nov, 17 break-in, he’s accused of taking a tire iron, according to the allegations.

The charges are based on, among other evidence, video surveillance footage and a positive identification of Sherman from the surveillance, according to the allegations. Sherman was a former employee of the shop, prosecutor Nicolas Brooks-McDonald said.

In all, Sherman faces four counts of third-degree burglary, felonies, and four counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, misdemeanors.

The case follows another from earlier this year where an employee was charged with breaking into the shop where he worked. In July, a man who was accused of burglarizing the Dominos Pizza on Broadway by climbing in through duct work to try and take a safe. He fled empty-handed, authorities alleged at the time, but was arrested later after a manager identified the man from surveillance, authorities said then.
