SCHENECTADY — One of the newest restaurants downtown has closed.

After less than a year in business, 611 Union Street has closed, according to its Facebook page.

The contemporary Italian eatery opened in April.

Its abrupt closure marks the latest in a revolving door of short-lived restaurants that have occupied the location in recent years, including Marotta’s Bar-Risto and Rare Craft Steak & Cocktail House.

Owner Rick Greminger did not immediately respond for comment via Facebook.

But the restaurant announced last Tuesday it was closing for the night due to “some maintenance.”

The strip of rowhouse-style venues along Union Street has been fluid in recent years.

Bier Abbey, Cafe Nola and Chez Nous have all closed recently. New arrivals include farm-to-table restaurant Malcolm’s and The Schenectady Trading Company, a locally-focused retailer that opened a standalone location after getting its wings at the Clinton Street Mercantile.
