Legendary actor and Amsterdam native Kirk Douglas turned 103 on Monday and was greeted with a host of kind messages from family and friends at his home in Los Angeles, according to Fox News and several other wire reports.

Actor Michael Douglas celebrated his father’s birthday with a special Instagram post:

“Happy birthday Dad! You are a living legend and your entire family sends you all the love in their hearts! #KirkDouglas #103”

Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas’ wife,  shared the Instagram message, “Happy Birthday Pappy!!! I love you with all my heart.”

Michael Douglas recently told Jimmy Kimmel that his dad wanted a small birthday celebration this year instead of a big celebration the family usually holds.

In 2016, Douglas celebrated his 100th birthday with a party at the Beverly Hills Hotel attended by Don Rickles, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Steven Spielberg, his wife Anne, his son Michael and Zeta-Jones.

Douglas, born Issur Danielovitch, was raised in Amsterdam along with six sisters.

He starred in over 90 films, and was perhaps best known for his lead role in “Spartacus.”

He was nominated for the following Academy Awards: Best Actor, 1956, “Lust for Life”; Best Actor, 1952, “The Bad and the Beautiful”; and Best Actor, 1949, “Champion.”

He was presented with an honorary Oscar in 1996 for 50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community.
