Clifton Park Planning Board will hear Route 9 Stewarts plan

Clifton Park — The town Planning Board will hear a proposal for a new Stewart’s Shop on Route 9 at its Jan. 14 meeting.

The proposed shop would be located at 1740 Route 9 and contain 3,696 square feet of space, according to documents submitted to the town’s Planning Department.

The proposed site also contains a Residence Inn by Marriott. Stewart’s wants to subdivide the parcel and build the shop on 1.48 acres. The store would feature eight self-service gas pumps under a canopy, according to documents.

Over the past few years Stewart’s has replaced several old stores on-site and has added stores in new locations in New York and Vermont. Eighteen new shops were slated for 2019 in varying locations, representing a more than $50 million in new investment by the company.

Most recently, the Planning Board in March approved a reconstruction of a shop on Grooms Road. It will replace the current one at the corner of Grooms and Vischer Ferry roads. The plan, according to documents submitted to the town, is to build a 3,675-square-foot store on the same site as the current store.

The current shop would be razed when the new one is finished. The new store will stand on a 3.1-acre parcel and will offer eight fueling stations and an expanded parking lot.

A representative from the company did not return a request for comment on the new store slated for Route 9 on Thursday.
