
BURLINGTON, VT — The Union College men’s hockey team settled for a 1-1 tie with No. 13/15 Providence to close out the Catamount Cup hosted by University of Vermont.
Providence (10-5-4) got the game’s first goal on a power-play at 6:23 of the first period. Union (5-13-1) had to kill a five-minute major penalty which the team executed successfully.
Providence held its 1-0 lead until Union’s Vas Kolias tied the score with 5:11 remaining in regulation.
In the five-minute overtime period neither team was able to find the back of the net which ended the game in a 1-1 tie.
Up next Union will start 2020 with road contests at St. Lawrence and Clarkson during the Jan. 3-4 weekend. Both games are set for 7 p.m. starts, with Union playing St. Lawrence on Friday and Clarkson on Saturday.

TROY — The RPI men’s hockey team fell to the ninth ranked University of Massachusetts by a score of 5-3 in the Catamount Cup at Houston Field House.
Patrick Polino and Mike Gornall led the way for RPI (6-10-1) each scoring a goal while Zack Dubinsky and Chase Zieky each had two assists.
Niko Hildenbrand led UMass (13-4-1) with two goals.
The Engineers return to the ice next weekend when the team visits No. 4 Clarkson on Friday January 3 at 7 p.m. and St. Lawrence Saturday January 4 at 7 p.m..

ALBANY — The University at Albany women’s basketball team came up short in a 53-41 non-conference game to Monmouth on Sunday. The game capped off the non-conference schedule for UAlbany.
Alexi Schecter led the way for UAlbany with 11 points and added seven rebounds. Helene Haegerstrand added eight points and six rebounds, while Amanda Kantzy recorded eight points and tied a career high with 10 rebounds.
Monmouth outscored UAlbany in the last three quarters 41-22 and scored 19 points off fast breaks to UAlbany’s four. UAlbany had 28 turnovers while Monmouth had 18.
