As a freshman, Mondays for Siena men’s basketball’s Jalen Pickett meant claiming his latest rookie of the week award.

This week, Monday saw Pickett — now a sophomore — secure three honors.

After leading Siena to a 2-0 week, Pickett was named Monday as the MAAC Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week, plus earn the latest Lou Henson award national player of the week honors.

The Lou Henson weekly award recognizes the top mid-major player in the country. The overall Lou Henson Award is presented to a player at the end of the season, and Pickett was named to that award’s watch list before the 2019-20 season started.

During Siena’s 2-0 week, Pickett averaged 21.5 points, six rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in wins against Canisius and Holy Cross, as the Saints improved to 5-5 on the season. Pickett had a season-high 22 points against Canisius, then had 21 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocked shots against Holy Cross.

As a freshman, Pickett — this year’s preseason MAAC Player of the Year — won a league-record 11 MAAC Rookie of the Week awards on his way to being named the MAAC Rookie of the Year and an All-MAAC first-team selection.

Siena fifth-year senior Elijah Burns was last week’s MAAC Player of the Week, while freshman Gary Harris previously earned a MAAC Rookie of the Week selection this season.

The Saints, winners of three in a row, next play Friday at Times Union Center in Albany against Monmouth.
