Tri-County Indoor Track League officials are looking for ways to fit in several league meets that have been postponed at Union College because of a leaking roof at its field house.
Two meets slated for Friday and two more scheduled to be held Saturday were called off out of safety concerns for the student-athletes, TCITL co-president Lisa Paparone said.
Previously scheduled meets at Union College on Dec. 27-28 were also called off.
“For some schools that don’t travel [to weekend invitationals], these are the only competitions they get,” Paparone said. “From our end, it is what can we do to get them in?”
Union College and Hudson Valley Community College serve as the TCITL’s host sites.
“We’re looking to add schools into later meets,” said Paparone, who coaches boys’ and girls’ track teams at Colonie. “We are also trying to find another date when we could run.”
Paparone said she is hoping the Union College field house is running-ready by Saturday, Jan. 11, when the next two TCITL meets are scheduled there. Union College is also the site for two league meets on Jan. 18, as well as the Jan. 25 Suburban Council and TCITL freshman championships.
Paparone said the number of indoor meets a student-athlete is required to participate in to be eligible for Section II championship and state qualifying competitions has been reduced from six to four this winter season because of the uncertainty of the schedule.
