WILTON – A drunk driver on the Northway failed to stop for state police, then came to a stop in a travel lane on Monday, state police said Tuesday.
The pursuing trooper then quickly approached the stopped vehicle to instruct the driver off to the shoulder, state police said. She then did so, but struck the guardrail in the process.
Troopers identified the driver as Kathleen M. Dudziak, 28, of Lake George. She was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The incident happened at about 3 p.m. Monday on the Northway in Saratoga County, state police said. State police received word to be on the lookout for an erratic driver headed south on the Northway in Wilton and troopers soon located the vehicle.
Troopers then attempted to stop it, but the driver continued on for about a mile and a half, before coming to a complete stop in the middle of the far right-hand lane of travel, state police said.
The trooper then instructed her to move off the road and she then hit the guardrail as she pulled off to the side.
Dudziak showed multiple signs of intoxication. She couldn’t complete field sobriety tests safely. She later refused to submit to a breath test and was found to be in possession of concentrated cannabis.
Dudziak was arraigned and is due to appear again in court later, state police said.
