Reports: Kobe Bryant killed in California helicopter crash

LOS ANGELES – National news organizations are reporting that NBA star Kobe Bryant has been killed in a helicopter crash outside Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Bryant was killed when the helicopter he was traveling in crashed in foggy conditions into Calabasas hills near Los Angeles after 10 a.m. local time, about 1 p.m. eastern, the paper reported, citing sources.

All five people on board were killed.

TMZCNN and ESPN, also citing sources, reported Bryant’s death.

News of Bryant’s death led many to mourn on social media, including from current Atlanta Hawk and Shen grad Kevin Huerter and former NBA player and Glens Falls grad Jimmer Fredette.

In a Tweet posted at 2:50 p.m., Huerter wrote simply “No way. Just no way….”

Fredette, in his own Tweet posted at 3:35 p.m. wrote of the day and his admiration for Bryant.

“Such a sad day.   RIP to a legend,” Fredette wrote. “He was an inspiration to so many including myself.  Prayers to his loved ones right now. #mamba.”
