ALBANY — Kyara Frames scored 16 points, and the University at Albany women’s basketball team earned its second straight America East Conference victory by defeating UMBC 56-51 on Commitment to Education Day Wednesday at SEFCU Arena.

Helene Haegerstrand added 10 points for the Great Danes (4-4 AE, 8-13 overall). She also tied a career high in rebounds with seven.

Amanda Kantzy chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds for UAlbany. Alexi Schecter notched eight points and two blocks.

UMBC’s Te’yJah Oliver, who averaged 20 points per game was held to just four points on 1 of 13 shooting, including 0 of 5 from 3-point range.


The Great Danes return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. at Vermont.
