Police: Schenectady man arrested after Saratoga Springs traffic stop; Drug possession charged

SARATOGA SPRINGS – A Schenectady man was arrested on drug charges after an early Sunday traffic stop and foot chase in Saratoga Springs, police said.

Ezekiel West, 26, of Schenectady, faces one count each of third-degree and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies. He also faces misdemeanors and violations, police said.

The incident happened at about 1:44 a.m. Sunday on Vanderbilt Avenue when an officer attempted a traffic stop, police said. West, identified as the driver, initially failed to stop, police said. West then eventually stopped on Doten Avenue, but he then gout out and fled on foot, police said.

The ensuing foot chase went through several back yards, but police soon had West in custody, police said.

West was found to be in possession of about four grams of cocaine, as well as other paraphernalia police described as consistent with drug sales, police said.

West also faces misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and aggravated unlicensed operation, police said.

West was arraigned and ordered held on $1,000 bail.
