HALFMOON — Fire officials responded to a blaze in Halfmoon on Wednesday afternoon that destroyed a portion of a commercial space.

The fire on Dunsbach Road, at the site of Capital District Stairs, was called in around 1 p.m. to the West Crescent Fire District, said Chief Stephen Bonesteel.

The fire struck a large shed that was half commercial and half work area. There was also a home on the property, which was unaffected by the fire.

“Upon arrival we had heavy fire showing, along with endangering a few propane tanks,” Bonesteel said.

Nobody was in the shed at the start of the fire, he added; the blaze was noticed when the owner’s dog began to bark. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.

Half of the building was a total loss, Bonesteel said, but the other half is salvageable.

“They could probably rehab it,” he said.

The Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Department, the Vischer Ferry Fire District and the Hillcrest Fire Department also responded.
