HAMDEN, Conn. — The Siena women’s basketball team is on a roll. And it had a first on Saturday.

Junior Rayshel Brown scored 18 points, and the Saints outscored Quinnipiac 38-26 in the second half to beat the three-time defending MAAC-champion Bobcats 68-60 at People’s United Center.

Siena (6-6 MAAC, 8-13 overall) extended its winning streak to five games. It was also the first win over Quinnipiac in 15 tries. The win avenged a 66-52 loss to the Bobcats Jan. 4 at Alumni Recreation Center.

Brown shot 8-for-12 from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds.

Senior Sabrina Piper added 12 points, and sophomore Amari Anthony added 10.

Anthony would kick-start the offense to start the second half, which would carry into the later part of the third quarter. After a Shaq Edwards 3-pointer with 5:04 to play in the third, the Saints would turn the tables with a 10-2 run over the final half of the quarter and take a 48-47 lead into the fourth quarter.

With the scored tied 53-53 with 5:54 left, Siena would go ahead for good as freshman Ashley Williamson hit her only bucket of the game, a 3-pointer, moments later.

The Saints would maintain their lead down the stretch, despite Quinnipiac getting back within three points with 46 seconds to play.
