BETHLEHEM – One person was killed in a Monday morning crash on the Thruway in the town of Bethlehem, state police said.

State police later Monday identified the driver as Dakisha Brown, 44, of Syracuse. She was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The one-car rollover crash happened at about 7:45 a.m. on Interstate 87 southbound, troopers said.

Brown’s vehicle veered off the highway on the right shoulder for an unknown reason and struck an embankment, causing it to overturn several times and go through the right-of-way fence. It came to rest on a neighboring property, state police said.

Troopers were being assisted on the scene by the local fire department, traffic safety, Thruway maintenance and EMS, state police said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation later Monday afternoon, state police said.
