NISKAYUNA — Bellevue Woman’s Center on Monday offered a look at its new Maternal Fetal Medicine Practice, which will serve women during high-risk pregnancies.
The practice is led by Dr. Franz Margono, a longtime specialist in management of high-risk pregnancies and treatment of pregnant women with underlying medical disorders. He has extensive experience with prenatal diagnosis of genetics and fetal anomalies.
Potential complicating factors for mother or fetus include diabetes, heart disease, lupus, cervical problems, previous premature deliveries, advanced maternal age, high numbers of previous pregnancies and/or miscarriages, and disorders involving hypertension, bleeding or seizures.
Bellevue, part of Ellis Medicine, is the region’s only hospital dedicated to treatment of women, their pregnancies and their newborns. An increasing number of pregnancies are happening later in life, and the new Maternal Fetal Medicine Practice is designed to offer the expanded level of care older women often need during pregnancy.
Bellevue can offer care even before pregnancy starts, with pre-conception consultations, and continue through to delivery and postpartum care.
