SARATOGA SPRINGS – A Saratoga Springs man has been arrested, accused of raping a child under the age of 13, police said.
Todd A. Buchas, 41, was arrested Friday and charged with one count each of predatory sexual assault against a child, first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, felonies.
If convicted of the predatory sexual assault count, Buchas would face up to 25 years to life in state prison.
The investigation began Thursday evening when police were called to a home in reference to a sex offense complaint. Buchas, the suspect, had left the scene prior to officers arriving, police said. The initial investigation indicated the victim to be under the age of 13 and known to Buchas, police said.
State police soon found Buchas outside the city and took him into custody. The investigation continued into Friday and Buchas was formally charged.
“The afternoon shift and the Investigations Division did an amazing job on one of the calls no officer wants to ever receive,” police wrote in a Facebook post announcing the arrest. “Their work on this investigation was extraordinary and led to a swift arrest. Our thoughts are with the victim and all others impacted.”
Buchas was arraigned and ordered held without bail.
