COLONIE – A Miami man traveled to the Capital Region on several occasions to rape an underage teenager, police said.
Police Saturday arrested Carlos Robles, 26, of Miami, Fla., and charged him with third-degree rape, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Robles is accused of victimizing a 16-year-old girl whom he met online, police said. Police said he traveled to the Capital Region to rape her knowing she was underage.
The investigation began after the victim’s parents intercepted computer communication between Robles and their daughter. They then stopped a potential meeting Saturday, police said.
The parents then notified police and police then used information provided by the victim’s father to find Robles at the Wolf Road Red Roof Inn.
Police then determined that Robles raped the girl at the Motel 6 on Central Avenue in Albany the weekend of April 10 to 12. Police also believe he met and raped her at an Albany motel the weekend of April 3 to 5. Police turned the Albany information over to police there.
The police interview with Robles provided information on potential other victims in Florida and/or Texas, police said. Anyone who has information on Robles or believes they were victimized by him should contact Colonie Police or their local department.
Police also seized Robles’ cell phones and computer devices from his hotel room through a search warrant. The devices are to be forensically examined for evidence, police said.
The FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force is assisting and additional federal charges are possible, police said.
Robles was arraigned and ordered held on $25,000 bail
