Albany Academy standout Andre Jackson was named the Class A Player of the Year on Thursday when the New York State Sportswriters Association unveiled its 2019-20 large-school boys’ basketball all-state teams.
Jackson, an Amsterdam native, averaged 18.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 3.1 steals and 2.7 blocks per game during his senior season playing for Albany Academy, which saw its season cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic before it could play in the federation tournament.
Jackson will play in college for the University of Connecticut.
Jackson led a group of Capital Region players honored Thursday.
Also in Class A, Mekeel Christian Academy junior Alex Barnhill received a third-team selection; Ozzy DeJesus of Mekeel Christian Academy was a fourth-team pick; Albany Academy junior Marcus Jackson earned a spot on the sixth team; Gloversville senior Dante Bouchard made the seventh team; Lansingburgh senior Isaiah Knight was a 12th-team selection; Gloversville senior Joey Rowback and Albany Academy sophomore Riley Mulvey each made the 13th team; and, honorable mentions were awarded to Hudson Falls junior Johnathan Beagle, Queensbury senior Bryce Bleibtrey, Catholic Central senior Jackson Brown, Albany Academy junior Preston Graber and Averill Park senior Matt Lettko.
In Class AA, Ballston Spa senior Keegan Zoller was a 14th-team selection, and Green Tech senior Justin Owens made the 15th team. Receiving honorable mentions were Saratoga Springs senior Aidan Holmes, Green Tech senior Kemore Johnson, Shenendehowa senior Jake Reinisch and Niskayuna senior Sean St. Lucia.
