Gates heading to Holy Cross, not UAlbany men’s basketball

Open scholarships for the 2020-21 season are back to two for the UAlbany men’s basketball program.

According to multiple reports, forward Gerrale Gates committed during the weekend to Holy Cross. Gates, a transfer from New Orleans, had initially committed to UAlbany in late April before decommitting.

From Charlotte, North Carolina, the 235-pound Gates averaged 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 61 appearances at New Orleans. As a freshman, Gates averaged 8.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game on his way to being named the Southland Conference’s top freshman.
