Two arrested after Thruway chase in Montgomery County; Driver speed topped 100 mph, troopers say

MINDEN – Two people were arrested after a weekend Thruway chase in western Montgomery County the driver being chased hit speeds of 100 mph, state police said.

The incident began at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday on the Thruway in Minden when troopers stopped a vehicle for a vehicle and traffic violation, state police said.


As the trooper approached  the vehicle, the driver sped off from the shoulder and the chase began, state police said.

The chase lasted several minutes and hit speeds topping 100 mph before the driver, identified as Tatiyana M. Thomas, 20, of Jamacia, NY, pulled over and stopped, state police said.

As she stopped, one of the occupants fled on foot. 

Thomas was taken into custody at the scene. A search of the vehicle uncovered 48 sealed bags of marijuana totaling approximately 211 grams, state police said.

The fleeing passenger was soon found and taken into custody by the Canajoharie Police Department and returned to the scene, state police said. He was identified as Jaleek V. Grier, 23, of Rockaway, state police said.

Thomas was charged with one count of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Grier was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.

The two were processed and released to appear in court later.
