GLENVILLE — The town will re-open its basketball and tennis courts for resident use starting Wednesday, Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle said.
The Andersen Park dog park on Van Buren Road will also re-open Wednesday, though playgrounds and youth sports facilities will remain closed as part of efforts to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus. Koetzle said people using the dog park are encouraged to use face masks, in keeping with Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
“Any visitors to these facilities are asked to continue to follow all CDC guidelines and recommendations,” the town announcement said. The restrooms will be open in the parks so that residents can wash their hands regularly. We ask that all visitors wash their hands prior to park use and recommend doing so again after park use.”

Koetzle said the discussion about starting to reopen parts of the parks was in the works before Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced plans to loosen restrictions on some outdoor recreation.
The town parks have been closed since late March out of fear contact there could spread the coronavirus — but people have continued to visit the parks.
He said the town has “never really been able to shut down” basketball, since the courts are readily accessible to the public.
The town last week re-opened the Town Hall to the public — only in the mornings, on a limited basis, with departments only open two days a week — starting last Wednesday.
“That’s been going great,” Koetzle said. “Residents are respecting all the social distancing protocols and coming in at the right time for the right departments. It’s to the point where we may want to expand the hours, maybe next week.”
