SCHENECTADY — Six candidates, including three incumbents, are seeking one of Schenectady’s three open school board seats.

The candidates will be up for election on the June 9 school budget and board votes, which will occur by absentee ballots only this year. Prospective candidates were allowed to “self nominate” to get on the ballot this year after the governor suspended signature requirements and delayed the election until June.

The three incumbent board members up for new terms are all runnning for re-election: Dharam Hitlall, Bernice Rivera and Katherine Stephens. Nohelani M. Etienne, Princella Leary and Samuel W. Rose will also be on the ballot. The candidates will be listed alphabetically by last name on ballots mailed to voters next month.

Voters will have a chance to vote for three of the candidates, with the top three voter-getters winning the board seats. The winning candidates will start three-year terms on July 1.
