Troopers: Traffic stop for speeding near Cobleskill leads to crack cocaine, 3 lbs of marijuana

COBLESKILL – Two Massachusetts men were arrested Monday afternoon after a traffic stop on Interstate 88 where they were found with crack cocaine and three pounds of marijuana, state police said.

The stop happened just before 5 p.m. Monday for excessive speed near mile marker 93 in the Town of Cobleskill. Troopers soon found those inside in possession of more than six grams of crack cocaine, three pounds of marijuana, as well as numerous packages of marijuana edibles, state police said.

Charged were Jose Romero, 25, and Anthony Pena, 21, both of Salem, Mass. They each face one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, felonies. Pena also faces one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. 

They were arraigned and released under conditions they refrain from further criminal activity and make contact the  Schoharie County Probation Department three times per week, state police said. They are due in court next month.
