SCOTIA – Jumpin’ Jacks in Scotia reopened this weekend with a new phone system that it hoped would make ordering under new COVID-19 restrictions smooth and reliable.
The iconic restaurant off Route 5 announced the new phone queue system and procedures via Facebook Saturday.
The new system involves patrons calling a single phone number, then selecting whether they want ice cream or food. Once an order is placed, patrons will then drive to the exit door for ice cream orders or to the back parking lot for food orders.
The food or ice cream will then be brought out to the cars.
“We would like to thank you all for your patience and support during these unprecedented times!” the restaurant wrote.
The drive-in initially reopened nearly two weeks ago with new car-based procedures in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.
But the first phone-based ordering system proved unable to handle the orders and the restaurant closed again within days to reassess the system. The original system also included a radio station as part of the process. The new system eliminates that step.
